When your child enters the world, a sudden rush of protectiveness comes over you and that adrenaline that tells you, ‘do what is best for your child.’ It is this urge that continues everyday for the rest of your life, because we know, as parents, we are responsible for ensuring that we help shape our children into the best Muslims that they can be. Our goal is simple – How can I help them achieve the best in deen and dunyah? And in order to do this, we must simply, look at the Qur’an and Sunnah and understand the beautiful messages that Allah SWT teaches us through the creation growing inside us, the process of birth and our children developing as they grow older.
I knew the status of my parents in Islam, but I never knew until I had my own child what the responsibility of bring a parent was. Your parents always tell you about the struggles of raising a child and you understand to some extent, how much they have done for you. But the inkling in your heart when you become a parent is simply like no other. I knew, that my responsibility now, was given to me directly by Allah SWT, to help shape my son to be the best Muslim, the best person that he could be. It is his Islamic right, as my child that I provide this for him. All the love and support and all the material things that I need to give him is what is required from me by Allah SWT.
Our children have the following Islamic rights over parents, so that we provide the best that we can:
- A roof over their head
- Food and water
- Clothes
- Knowledge – sending them to school and teaching them about Islam
- Love, guidance and support
- Skills – cooking, cleaning, driving, etc
May Allah SWT make it easy on all those who are raising children, ameen.
